Overview


You find yourself an exciting, spectacular mountain becoming famous among mountaineers and trekkers. When you reach the splendid Mera Peak, Nepal’s highest climbing peak is officially said. It is located at the edge of the famous Khumbu region and is dominated by Mount Everest; it is said that climbing Mera Peak is a prospect for all adventure enthusiasts who are mentally and physically well. Several mighty mountains above 8000 meters can be visible from the top of this peak, such as Mt. Everest, Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Lhotse, Cho-Oyu, and many other peaks.

Itineraries


Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1310m)

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by a representative and transferred to your hotel. After checking in and freshening up, you can explore the vibrant streets of Thamel, the main tourist hub in Kathmandu. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner and briefing about the upcoming trek.

Day 2: Full day sightseeing in Kathmandu and pre-departure preparation

Today, you will embark on a guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Visit Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Patan Durbar Square. In the afternoon, return to the hotel for a pre-departure briefing and gear check to ensure you are well-prepared for the trek.

Day 3: Fly to Lukla and explore around (2730m)

Early morning, transfer to the airport for a scenic flight to Lukla. The flight offers stunning views of the Himalayan range. Upon arrival in Lukla, you will have some time to explore the village, acclimatize to the altitude, and prepare for the trek. Overnight stay in Lukla.

Day 4: Trek from Lukla to Chutanga (3430m) 3-4 hours

After breakfast, begin your trek with a gentle ascent through pine and rhododendron forests. The trail gradually climbs up to Chutanga, a small settlement used as a grazing area for yaks in summer. Enjoy the serene environment and the first taste of high-altitude trekking.

Day 5: Trek from Chutanga to Thuli Kharka (4320m) passing Zwatra La (4600m) 5-6 hours

Today’s trek involves crossing the Zatrwa La Pass (4600m). The climb is challenging but rewards you with breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Descend to Thuli Kharka, a pastureland with panoramic mountain vistas. Overnight in a teahouse.

Day 6: Trek from Thuli Kharka to Kothe (3600m) 5-6 hours

The trail from Thuli Kharka descends through lush forests of rhododendrons, juniper, and pine to reach the Hinku Valley. Continue along the valley floor to Kothe, a small village situated on the banks of the Hinku Drangka River. Overnight in Kothe.

Day 7: Trek from Kothe to Thaknak (4350m) 3-4 hours

Today’s trek is relatively short, allowing you to gain altitude gradually. Follow the Hinku River, passing through beautiful glacial valleys. Arrive in Thaknak, where you will spend the night. Thaknak is a small settlement with stunning views of surrounding peaks and glaciers.

Day 8: Trek from Thaknak to Khare (5045m) 2-3 hours

Continue trekking along the lateral moraine of the Dig Glacier to reach Khare. This is a short trek but involves a significant altitude gain. Arriving early in Khare allows time for rest and acclimatization. The afternoon can be spent exploring the area and preparing for the climb ahead.

Day 9: Rest Day at Khare for acclimatization

Spend the day acclimatizing at Khare. Engage in short hikes around the area to help your body adjust to the higher altitude. This is a crucial day to rest and prepare mentally and physically for the upcoming summit attempt. Enjoy the magnificent views of Mera Peak and other surrounding mountains.

Day 10: Trek from Khare to Mera High Camp (5900m) 3-4 hours

Begin the trek to Mera Base Camp and to high camp, ascending through rocky terrain and glacial moraines. The path is challenging but offers spectacular views. Upon reaching the base camp, set up tents and prepare for the final ascent. Overnight in fixed tents at the high camp.

Day 11: Mera High Base Camp to Summit (6476m) and back to Khare (50450); 8-9 hours

Start early for the summit push. The climb involves navigating crevasses and snowfields. Reaching the summit of Mera Peak (6476m) rewards you with panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and other peaks. After spending some time at the summit, descend back to Khare. This is a long and demanding day, but immensely rewarding.

Day 12: Khare to Kothe (3600m); 4-5 hours

Begin the descent from Khare to Kothe, retracing your steps through the Hinku Valley. The downhill trek is easier on the lungs but can be tough on the knees. Enjoy the return to lower altitudes and the changing scenery.

Day 13: Trek from Kothe to Thuli Kharka; 5-6 hours

Continue the descent to Thuli Kharka, passing through lush forests and scenic landscapes. This section of the trek provides an opportunity to reflect on the journey and enjoy the diverse flora and fauna of the region.

Day 14: Trek from Thuli Kharka to Lukla; 6-7 hours

The final day of trekking takes you back to Lukla, crossing the Zatrwa La Pass once again. The ascent is challenging, but the return to Lukla brings a sense of accomplishment and closure to the trekking adventure. Overnight in Lukla.

Day 15: Fly back to Kathmandu

Take an early morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax, take a hot shower, and enjoy the comforts of city life. In the evening, celebrate the successful trek with a farewell dinner.

Day 16: Leisure day for shopping and relax

Spend a leisurely day in Kathmandu. You can go shopping for souvenirs in Thamel, visit local markets, or simply relax at your hotel. This day is also a buffer day in case of any flight delays from Lukla.

Day 17: Fly back home.

Your adventure in Nepal concludes today. You will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home, carrying unforgettable memories and a sense of achievement from your Mera Peak expedition.
