Everest Base Camp is one of the world’s famous trekking destinations. Every mountain lover dreams of scaling the base camp of mighty Everest. There are several trekking routes in the Everest Region, and the EBC trek is the most popular one. We have prepared the Top 10 FAQs on Everest Base Camp Trek (EBC) in Nepal based on our previous trekkers’ experiences. If the given FAQs are not helpful enough, you may reach us; one of our representatives will respond with the information you need before you prepare and plan the Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal.
Are you planning to go to Everest Base Camp without a flight to Lukla? Check these itineraries (Salleri to EBC or Jiri to EBC) for a better idea.
Fly from Kathmandu(1310m) to Lukla (2860m) via small plane (17-19 people occupy), which takes about 30 minutes; and start trekking further to the south face of Mount Everest Base Camp (EBC) at an altitude of 5380m or 17600ft above sea level.
This trek is a kind of moderate level of trekking. The tour has rolling flats and steeply ascends, but it is generally manageable for the trekker of any age with little trekking experience. The trekker has to be physically fit, though. However, it is advised to have some training before planning this EBC Trip to adjust to high altitude sickness. There is no exact age limit for this trekking as seniors and minimum age people can still do it. Still, it is suggested to know the route map, itinerary, difficulty, altitude, action challenges, fitness, medications, requirements, and other advice from blogs or news. The total Everest Base Camp Trek Distance is 62 Kilometers or 38.58 miles. It will take 7 to 8 days to reach Everest Base Camp (EBC) and 3-4 days to return to Lukla. Usually, the trek to EBC is slower because of the high altitude and possibility of AMS; you will need to adjust to the new heights. Each day you will walk less than 8-10 Kilometers; the higher your trek, your walking speed will get slower. It is suggested to have some extra days in Kathmandu and start the hike right after the day of your arrival because of flight cancellations due to unfavorable weather conditions.
It is wise to follow a 12-Day standard EBC Trekking itinerary (To and From Lukla) to avoid AMS and have a smooth trekking experience.
Everest Base Camp Trek 12 Days’ best times/months/seasons are Spring (March, April, May) and Autumn (September, October, and November). EBC Trekking in other months can be the hardest because of heavy snowfall in winter (December, January, February) and heavy rains in Summer (June, July, August).
Regarding the group to join, yes! You can enter, but we need to see the available dates to join the group. However, the Everest Base Camp trek can be done solo, and we provide one guide and porter for every trek itinerary we offer.

Of course! It’s RECOMMENDED to purchase travel insurance and make sure it covers emergency evacuation at high altitudes. Altitude sickness can attack anyone, no matter if your fitness level is good; the solution is to take time and walk slowly. If you feel AMS, it is suggested to go to the lower elevation.
The trekking cost (accommodation, guide/porter fees, food) remains the same. However, due to flight fares and permit fees (less than the other citizens), it will cost cheaper than foreign citizens. The cost will be less than 200 US dollars than the standard quotation mentioned on the package. Make us an inquiry for the updated price for Indian and Nepalese trekkers.
You can choose the food from the menu, depending on the place. You can also select local dishes and continental/Chinese dishes. However, food is cooked by the essential local trainers so the taste may not be the same as at your house.
You can bring whatever equipment is available in your home town. The rest of the things can be hired or purchased in Kathmandu. Usually, the company does not provide the equipment for the trek, so you will need to buy or rent before the tour starts. Check our blog about the Everest Base Camp Packing List and Equipment you can hire in Kathmandu.
Yes, you can use ordinary drinking water using water purification tablets or refill the water at some tea shops, as buying bottled water at every stop is very costly. The price for bottled water keeps increasing every step you go ahead. Usually, the cost of drinking water is not included in the package. Toilets are clean and friendly, but the water can freeze during winter. However, there are all indoor toilets, so you do not need to go outside at night.
Yes, you can charge your batteries and mobile phones everywhere by paying some extra amount. The price of charging may vary in different places. It is wise to bring your power bank, which you can charge in Kathmandu, and use it in the higher area as charging batteries in the higher area is quite costly.
